About the event

Culturally relevant, research-based SEL resources matter—especially for Black youth. In this panel discussion, we will discuss the challenges black students face, and explore strategies for helping them reach their full academic, social-emotional, and personal potential. We will look at how students, teachers, families, and administrators from Pre-K into young adulthood can play a role in shaping a culture of care for black students’ success.

Kristen Hopkins, Founder of Black SEL, will moderate a panel including:

  • Hakeem Croom, Director of the Male Success Alliance, California State University, Dominguez Hills
  • Brandon Frame, Senior Director of Social Emotional Learning, Urban Assembly
  • Dr. Arabelle LaCroix Pembroke, Principal of Riverdale Avenue Middle School, Brownsville, Brooklyn
  • Dr. Ralph Simpson, Deputy Superintendent for School Leadership and Improvement, Clayton County Schools
  • Alicia Williams, Founder & CEO, Teach Woke
